Everyday
computers are showing up in more workplaces all across America and the
wage gap between employees with and without computer skills is expanding
everyday. Even if your not an IT professional a solid background in computers
and common office software can give you that extra edge you need to get
that promotion or raise you have been looking for.
If you've
been paying attention the last few years you'll notice that pressure and
competition have been increasing in the IT job marketplace. A study by
certification magazine has shown that even in these lean times people
are still seeking certification, the question is why? The most likely
answer is job security. More than half, 59% of the certified employees
stated that they felt more secure in their current job because of their
certifications. Over 69% felt that the certification played at least some
role in the job security arena and only a tiny 16% stated that they had
changed companies within six months or receiving their main certificate.
Job security
is not the only reason given by the surveyed members. Sixty-five percent
felt more confident in the workplace having earned their certification
and 58% felt they got more respect from managers and coworkers. Half of
those surveyed felt that they were better problem solvers and overall
more productive on the job. A full thirty one percent had gotten a promotion
within six months of receiving their certification and overall pay was
increased by as much as 25%.
